Haw Creek Park Greenway

Updated November 25, 2025

The neighborhood association that brought you Haw Creek Park and Masters Park recently secured full funding to build a public greenway in the Haw Creek valley. This natural surface, mostly flat trail will start on Beverly Road – across from Creekside Taphouse and PennyCup – and meander through the woods and a meadow alongside Haw Creek. This will be the first public access to our namesake creek.

The greenway will link treasured community attractions – the East Asheville Public Library, Haw Creek Park, our charming commercial area – with the surrounding residential area and the nearby elementary school. Imagine the joy of walking along the creek to access these, or just stopping by for a relaxing creek side picnic. Once the New Haw Creek Road sidewalk is complete, the Haw Creek Park Greenway will be easy to access on foot or by bike for hundreds of residents living in the valley.

HCCA has invested untold hours to secure the funding for this project. Our initial campaign raised $11,115 from generous Haw Creek residents. This support was instrumental in securing the grants needed to fully fund the project, which included a $5,000 grant from respected greenway advocates Connect Buncombe

The project's remainder of $127,784 was awarded from Buncombe County's Open Space Passive Recreation BondThis last and largest grant was delayed by Hurricane Helene. It was secured by a unanimous vote of the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners on November 18, 2025.

In addition to the funding, HCCA is very grateful for the cooperation and generosity of the landowners: The City of Asheville and civic-minded private landowners. We are also grateful to Senior Water Resource Engineer Jake McLean from Wildlands Engineering, who donated his time and expertise to draw the greenway plans.

With all the funding in place, we are now beginning the process to bring this project to fruition. Our goal is to open this new neighborhood greenway to the public in the fall of 2026, if not sooner.

HCCA has a track record of success on community-driven projects. By working in partnership with local and state government, foundations, and our neighbors, we have been able to accomplish valued and lasting improvements for the Haw Creek community. We believe this greenway will provide these same long-lasting benefits.
